Ministry of Youth & Sports establishes info centres across country

Jan 5, 2016- The Ministry of Youth and Sports has successfully established Youth Information Centre in all the districts across the country. But the ministry has appointed one technical assistant each in only 46 districts. The ministry is yet to make appointment in the remaining 28 districts.   
The centres based in district headquarters will be responsible for disseminating information related to education, health, and employment, among other youth targeted programmes. Out of the total population, 40.3% are youth in the country.

The move follows the endorsement of Youth Council Act 2072 with revision on National Youth Policy 2066. The policy defines youth as person between the ages of 16 to 40. In line with the council act, the ministry has also developed Youth Vision 2025, a 10-year strategic plan.
According to Information Officer at the ministry, Mahendra Poudel, youths will be able to get information about vacancies in public service commission from information centres itself. A central information centre has been established in the ministry itself. For now the centres have been placed in offices of youth sports development committee.
The government is preparing to appoint a chief to the National Youth Council within February. Furthermore, the ministry has allocated Rs10.5 million from this year’s budget to enable smooth operations in its centres.
Moreover, the ministry has implemented a policy that requires various organisations conducting youth targeted programmes to mandatorily provide information to the centres.
The centres have been facilitated with one personnel, internet facility, local and national newspapers, printer and other necessary equipments. Each centre will receive Rs200,000.
Poudel informed that the ministry will appoint a technical assistant in the next fiscal year in the remaining 28 districts. "We are preparing to coordinate with other ministries to create an environment to relay more and more information to the youths," Poudel said.
